NAML Congratulates Attorney Mazen Basrawi, New White House Liaison to Muslim Community
(WASHINGTON, DC - 4/3/2023) The National Association of Muslim Lawyers today congratulated attorney Mazen Basrawi on his appointment as the Biden administration's first White House liaison to the Muslim American community.
Basrawi has served as the Director of Partnerships and Global Engagement at the National Security Council and as both a trial attorney and counsel in the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. He has also worked for Disability Rights Advocates and served as chairman for the Virginia Board for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Basrawi was one of NAML's earliest supporters and has spoken at multiple NAML conferences.
"We congratulate our friend and colleague, Mazen Basrawi, on his appointment as President Biden's White House liaison to the Muslim community," said NAML President Edward Ahmed Mitchell. "Attorney Basrawi is one of our nation's most accomplished and admired Muslim attorneys, and a longtime friend of NAML. We look forward to working with him in his new role, and we pray that Allah grants him success."
“Mazen has been an inspiration to NAML members since before we were NAML," said Professor Asifa Quraishi-Landes, the founder of NAML. "He has quietly connected the Muslim legal community to important policy makers in our government, has been a powerful and eloquent speaker at our conferences educating us about important legal cases for our community, and has been a spiritually grounding voice in countless NAML conversations, all the while maintaining a character of humility and service. The American Muslim community, and the United States in general, is lucky to have him in this new position."
The National Association of Muslim Lawyers (NAML) is the nation's largest association of Muslim lawyers and legal professionals in the United States.
