NAML to Host Annual Conference: “Monumental Moments for Muslim Lawyers”
The National Association of Muslim Lawyers (NAML) is gearing up for its annual conference, and this year’s theme, “Monumental Moments for Muslim Lawyers,” promises to provide a thoughtful exploration of the historic impact made by Muslim legal professionals across various sectors of the law.
Set to take place on October 6th through the 7th, the conference will delve into the significant contributions of Muslim lawyers to the legal profession and society as a whole. NAML’s President, Edward Mitchell, expressed the significance of this year’s conference, stating, “The National Association of Muslim Lawyers is excited to bring Muslim American lawyers, judges, legal scholars, and law students together to learn from each other and build ties with each other in our nation’s capital, God willing. Many Muslim lawyers are not only making history in various areas of law, but changing our legal system and our society for the better. NAML’s conference is an important opportunity for us to advance such progress.”
Reflecting on the importance of the conference, Asad Rahman, former NAML president (2022) and conference Chair (2018), shared his experiences, stating, “The conference presents an opportunity for attorneys and law students from across the country from all different areas and interests. I have seen firsthand the networking, career development, mentorship, and service opportunities that NAML presents through its conference and other activities. I have found mentors and friends for life, and I am hopeful that as we continue to grow, the next generation will enjoy the fruits of these efforts insha’Allah.”
But it’s not just seasoned legal professionals who appreciate the NAML conference. First-time attendee and recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Law, Nisa Sheikh, shared her excitement, saying, “I’m excited to have Muslim attorneys from various practices under one roof to learn from and connect with as a young attorney* starting out her career.”
